Chin Augmentation New York City
Introduction to Chin Augmentation
Creating Facial Balance & Harmony
There is no doubt that the chin is a defining feature of the face. It creates the symmetric contour of our overall head and is often a focal point for onlooking eyes. This is why many of our patients express concerns or self-conscious feelings about their chin. If your facial features seem to be out of cohesive balance, the issue may be associated with the size and shape of the chin. Dr. William Samson has over a decade of experience providing his NYC patients with Chin Augmentation surgery, a procedure that aims to correct facial balance.
You no longer have to live day to day with a chin that isn’t proportionate to your face. As one of the top plastic surgeons in New York, Dr. Samson has had the benefit of providing chin augmentation for his NYC patients for several years. Below, we’ve included our guide to the surgery, but if you’d like to schedule a consultation, please contact us today.
Let’s start with the basics
What is Chin Augmentation?
Having a chin that is too large detracts from the other features on your face. A chin that is too small makes other features seem more prominent. And then there is the dreaded double chin… These occurrences can be corrected to achieve facial balance with Chin Augmentation from Dr. Samson. The actual procedure works wonders for people in need of the surgery and can look different based on the specific chin size or chin issue for different patients. The surgery is separated into two categories — chin implant surgery and chin reduction:
Chin Implants: During the surgery, you may need an implant to round out the target area, in which incisions are made, and a pocket is created in front of the chin bone just under the muscles. The chosen implant is then placed inside the pocket. Dr. Samson may use natural bone or fat tissue or an implant made of silicone, Teflon, Dacron, or newer biological inserts; this will be determined during your consultation.
Chin Reduction: In other cases, Dr. Samson may need to move some bones to decrease the size of the chin, which will involve a cut inside your mouth along the lower gum. Symmetrical faces are the most appealing, and we are here to join your journey toward the chin you’ve always desired.

What are the Benefits of Chin Augmentation?
The balance and unity of the chin is the desired result that we focus on, but our office finds just as much joy in helping all our patients understand the unique benefits of the procedure. Some of the benefits of this procedure include the following:
- Strengthened chin appearance
- More attractive, triangular jaw shape
- Increased width or height of the chin
- Improved profile appearance
- Minimizing the appearance of a double chin
- Balance the nose and chin for better harmony across the face
What to expect on the day of surgery
The day of a procedure starts with our dedication to our patient’s comfort. We strive to provide a setting full of confidence and reassurance that you have made the right decision to move towards a more happy life with a less droopy forehead. The top three surgical plants are included below:
The Classic or Coronal Chin Augmentation: A Classic Chin Augmentation that is performed under anesthesia and involves an incision that starts just above the ear level and follows the hairline up the forehead to the next ear.
Endoscopic Chin Augmentation: An Endoscopic Chin Augmentation is a minimally invasive procedure performed under local anesthesia. After making a series of small incisions hidden in your hair, Dr. Smson uses specialized equipment to release and elevate brow tissue gently. Generally, this procedure involves faster healing time and less bruising.
Temporal Lift: A Temporal Lift is also a minimally invasive procedure but can be performed under local anesthesia in the office. This scaled-back endoscopic lift can produce excellent results with minimal downtime.
We are here to answer questions and provide you with our expert guidance if you have any questions or concerns before your appointment. The procedure can take anywhere from one to two hours, depending on the technique used.
What’s the First Step?
If you’re in or traveling to the New York area, and are interested in chin augmentation, the first step is to schedule a consultation. During your appointment, Dr. Samson will discuss your medical history, lifestyle, and your expectations regarding your Chin Augmentation. Before this specific procedure, we ask that you stop taking medications that increase bleeding. These include aspirin, specific supplements, and anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen. Dr. Samson may also ask for a medical evaluation to ensure you’re a good candidate for Chin Augmentation.
*We want our patients to get the results they desire, even if we have to make recommendations for other treatments; improving the balance of the facial elements with Chin Augmentation is just one of many ways to enhance one’s appearance in a surgical or non-surgical way.
Who are the Best Candidates for Chin Augmentation?
If you’re interested in Chin Augmentation, the question becomes, is it right for you? If you have a recessed chin or one that may protrude too much, you may be the perfect candidate for Chin Augmentation, and at Samson MD in New York City, Chin Augmentation is one of our most common procedures.
Those with solid dentition and normal occlusion (meaning that their upper teeth meet their lower teeth appropriately) are also ideal candidates. Some patients have a weak chin because their jaw sits back too far compared to their mid-face. Dr. Samson will evaluate your chin structure to determine the proper process for moving forward and which procedure works best for different candidates. Ideal candidates include:
- Nonsmokers
- Physically healthy
- At a stable weight
Chin Augmentation Recovery
Recovery is just as important as the procedure; it’s the road to your new and improved chin and a significant time. Following Chin Augmentation from Dr. Samson, your chin will be sore and swollen. It will be crucial to keep pressure off your chin and face; we recommend sleeping on your back. Pain medication will be provided and should be taken as needed and suggested.
*Most patients will go home on the same day of the procedure and be able to rest from the comfort of their homes. Dr. Samson will provide you with a detailed plan of recovery as well as tips and advice for a smooth recovery.
