Introduction to Liposuction
Innovative Body Contouring
Unless you have gone through rigorous training and a strict dietary plan, most people have some degree of fat in their body, and it is perfectly normal. Even those who eat healthily and have a good exercise routine will find that their body fat count tends to fluctuate on a weekly or even daily basis. Then there is the stubborn fat that seems to stick around no matter what is done. This is where procedures like Liposuction can come into play.

The results are not only something patients can be proud of—but also as a surgeon—results that he feels great about. Let’s start with the basics
What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is an invasive procedure that slims and reshapes specific areas of your body by removing the excess fat deposits, leaving you with a better body contour and proportions. Casually referred to as “Lipo”, this treatment is frequently used in the following areas:
- Abdomen
- Ankles
- Arms
- Buttocks
- Cheeks
- Chin
- Hips
- Knees
- Neck
- Thighs
- Upper arms
- Waist
*Please keep in mind that Liposuction is not intended to be a replacement for a proper diet and exercise, nor is it an obesity treatment. If you are looking to treat cellulite or loose, saggy skin specifically, there are other treatments that Dr. Samson can suggest to help you battle those conditions.

What to expect on the day of surgery
On the day of your Liposuction, you will be administered medications that will provide you with a comfortable experience during the procedure. Depending on what is discussed during your consultation, this medication may be local anesthesia, general anesthesia, or intravenous sedation.
Dr. Samson begins by making small, inconspicuous incisions at strategic locations. Then, diluted local anesthesia will be infused to help reduce bleeding and trauma. He will next insert a thin hollow tube through the incision and carefully move it back and forth in a controlled motion to loosen the excess fat. Once dislodged, the fat is suctioned out of the body with a surgical vacuum or syringe that is attached to the tube.

Liposuction Recovery
You will be able to return home after your procedure, but it is always recommended to have a ride available in case you are too sore to drive. Dr. Samson will cover your treated area with either a compression garment or elastic bandage to control swelling and compress the skin to your new body contours. In some situations, a small tube will be temporarily left in an incision that helps drain excess fluid or blood that accumulates.
Many of our patients will be able to return to work within a few days, as long as they are comfortable doing so. You should avoid any heavy lifting until Dr. Samson clears you for more strenuous activities. It can take up to several months for the swelling to fully subside.
How Much Does Liposuction Cost in New York City?
The cost of Liposuction in New York City will be based on a variety of factors, but will mostly be determined by how much fat will be removed and the location it is being removed from.
