Before & After

New York

Let’s start with the basics

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is an invasive procedure that slims and reshapes specific areas of your body by removing the excess fat deposits, leaving you with a better body contour and proportions. Casually referred to as “Lipo”, this treatment is frequently used in the following areas:

  • Abdomen
  • Ankles
  • Arms
  • Buttocks
  • Cheeks
  • Chin
  • Hips
  • Knees
  • Neck
  • Thighs
  • Upper arms
  • Waist

*Please keep in mind that Liposuction is not intended to be a replacement for a proper diet and exercise, nor is it an obesity treatment. If you are looking to treat cellulite or loose, saggy skin specifically, there are other treatments that Dr. Samson can suggest to help you battle those conditions.

What to expect on the day of surgery

On the day of your Liposuction, you will be administered medications that will provide you with a comfortable experience during the procedure. Depending on what is discussed during your consultation, this medication may be local anesthesia, general anesthesia, or intravenous sedation.

Dr. Samson begins by making small, inconspicuous incisions at strategic locations. Then, diluted local anesthesia will be infused to help reduce bleeding and trauma. He will next insert a thin hollow tube through the incision and carefully move it back and forth in a controlled motion to loosen the excess fat. Once dislodged, the fat is suctioned out of the body with a surgical vacuum or syringe that is attached to the tube.

What’s the First Step?

If you are in the NYC area and feel like you could benefit from Liposuction, the first thing you will need to do is contact the office of William Samson, MD. When you come in for your consultation with Dr. Samson, you will be able to show the areas that you would like to have treated and get a personal examination. You will also be asked about your medical history, during which time it is very important to be open and honest. After he has all of the information he needs, Dr. Samson will create your procedural plan. If you agree and are happy with the plan created, our Patient Coordinator will help you choose your surgical date.

Liposuction Recovery

You will be able to return home after your procedure, but it is always recommended to have a ride available in case you are too sore to drive. Dr. Samson will cover your treated area with either a compression garment or elastic bandage to control swelling and compress the skin to your new body contours. In some situations, a small tube will be temporarily left in an incision that helps drain excess fluid or blood that accumulates.

Many of our patients will be able to return to work within a few days, as long as they are comfortable doing so. You should avoid any heavy lifting until Dr. Samson clears you for more strenuous activities. It can take up to several months for the swelling to fully subside.

How Much Does Liposuction Cost in New York City?

The cost of Liposuction in New York City will be based on a variety of factors, but will mostly be determined by how much fat will be removed and the location it is being removed from. You will be given a price breakdown based on the treatment plan that Dr. Samson makes for you. We are proud to offer Alphaeon as a financing partner. If you’re interested in breaking up the payments and need financial assistance, please let us know during the consultation.

Liposuction FAQs

Is Liposuction painful?

The procedure itself is not typically painful, but many of our patients do feel a considerable amount of discomfort during their initial recovery stages. Dr. Samson will provide you with certain techniques to help make any pain or discomfort more bearable.

How many appointments will I need?

Dr. Samson will want to see you around a week following your procedure to make sure that you are having a healthy recovery. After that, you can expect 2 - 3 more follow-ups, usually 6 weeks after your surgery and then again after 6 months. Dr. Samson will always let you know when he would like to see you again before you leave your check-up.

How long until I see results?

After your procedure, you may see some visible differences depending on the amount of fat that is removed, however, you will still have some swelling, bruising, and possible redness. Many of our patients tend to see their final results between 1 and 3 months.

Can I combine Liposuction with other procedures?

Depending on your needs and wants, many procedures can be combined with Liposuction. Many of our patients in NYC will often also get a Tummy Tuck to create a tighter, flatter stomach or even a Breast Lift for a more contoured body. If you have a particular appearance you are looking for, please discuss this with Dr. Samson during your consultation and he will be able to make his expert recommendations.
