Breast Implant Revision New York City
Introduction to Breast Revision
Restoration & Rejuvenation
As unfortunate as it may be, breast implants can change shape or size over time, as well as the overlying breast tissue, which creates a less desirable appearance or feel to the breast from the original result. In addition to the changes, while many breast implants have a lifetime warranty on the implant device, after about ten years the costs associated with having surgery to replace the implants are no longer covered, causing many women to choose to replace or update their breast implants at or around this time frame.
William Samson, MD in New York City strives to provide the best possible results from his Breast Revision surgeries. Whether your implants are nearing the end of their lifecycle, you are unhappy with the results from a breast augmentation, or you had an accidental rupture, breast revision may be perfect for you. If you would like to learn more about the procedure, we encourage you to keep reading below.
Let’s start with the basics
What is Breast Revision?
Breast Revision surgery replaces your old breast implants with new ones. The goal is to change or improve the appearance of the breasts while updating the implant material. Some of the reasons our patients elect to receive a breast revision are:
- A concurrent breast lift or reduction
- Change from saline to silicone or a different style of implant
- Concern about rupture or migration of the implant
- Desire to change the size of the breasts
- Either increasing or decreasing the size, shape, or style of the breast implant
- Pain from capsular contracture
- Reshaping the breast implant pocket to reposition the implant on the chest

What to expect on the day of surgery
When you come in for your Breast Revision, you will first be administered anesthesia in either the form of intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. The type you will be using will be discussed during your consultation.
Dr. Samson will then make a deliberate incision at a strategic location. Various breast implant revision techniques are utilized depending on the type of procedures being performed. These incisions are an Inframammary incision (in the crease under the breast), a Breast lift incision (either vertical incision or Wise pattern incision), the Peri-areolar incision (part way or around an areola), or some combination of any of the three. Once finished, the incisions are closed using sutures, skin adhesives, clips, or tapes.
Dr. Samson will cover your incisions with gauze dressings or bandages, and depending on the details of your surgery, you may also have your breasts wrapped in an elastic garment or be told to wear a sports bra to provide extra support to your revised breasts.
What’s the First Step?
Patients in NYC looking into a Breast Revision will first need to contact the office of William Samson, MD to make a consultation. When you come in, you will meet with Dr. Samson and explain your current situation with your breast implants. He will ask you questions regarding your medical and surgical history, during which time it is very important to be open with him, as this information will help prevent any unnecessary risks. Finally, Dr. Samson will examine your breasts and devise a surgical plan to help you achieve your goals.
If you agree with the plan made for you, our Patient Coordinator will help you schedule your surgical date and give you a list of important directions to follow before your procedure. These instructions will help make your experience and recovery more successful.

Breast Revision Recovery
After you are released by Dr. Samson, you will be able to recover comfortably at home. You should have a friend or family member available to give you a ride as you may still be feeling the effects of the anesthesia for a few hours after surgery.
Dr. Samson may temporarily leave a small, thin tube in the incision to help drain any excess blood or fluid that may build up, but it should be removed when you come back for your first check-up about a week later. You will also be given some specific instructions on how to care for your incisions and get the most out of your recovery. Lastly, there will be prescribed medications to help ease your pain and prevent infection. There will be some swelling and pain during the first few weeks to months, but it should begin to dissipate a little more each day.
How Much Does Breast Revision Cost in New York City?
The cost of Breast Revision in New York City is based on a variety of factors, such as what needs to be done to repair or revise your implant and what techniques are required.
