Meet the Doctor
William Samson, MD, FACS
William Samson, MD is a plastic surgeon who specializes in both aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. While Dr. Samson performs a wide variety of services, he has a particular interest in breast reconstruction and aesthetic breast surgery. Dr. Samson first developed his interest in cancer as an undergraduate at Tufts University. While earning his Bachelor’s in Science, he participated in an independent research program at The Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School. He continued his research work in the Department of Tumor Immunology, for a year, as a Research Fellow, before matriculating to medical school.
Dr. Samson has been invited to speak at numerous conferences and has written extensively on topics including microvascular reconstructive surgery and aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery. He has wide clinical interests, and particularly enjoys merging his aesthetic eye and reconstructive surgery skills to tackle complex revision aesthetic breast surgery cases. In addition to Dr. Samson’s extensive experience in all types of aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, he also provides non-surgical aesthetic procedures.
Educational Background
Education
Dr. Samson obtained his medical degree at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He then completed a 5-year general surgery program at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Cornell. During his surgical training, he was drawn to technical subspecialties. Cancer reconstructive surgery married his interest in caring for cancer patients and his interest in complex, precision-oriented surgical procedures.
Fellowship Training
Training
Following his medical degree, Dr. Samson spent the next four years training in Plastic Surgery, the first of which was completed at Emory University, which is a world-renowned program. He completed two additional years of Plastic Surgery training at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Combined Cornell and Columbia University Programs. His final year of Plastic Surgery training consisted of a Microsurgery and Breast Reconstruction Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. After completing nine clinical years of training, Dr. Samson was recruited to Mount Sinai West, where he served as the Associate Chief of Plastic Surgery and was the Director of the Plastic Surgery Academic Program. He has participated in the training of over 50 plastic surgery residents.
